SAN FRANCISCO — “Frankenstein” will be one of three new animated shorts for the 2018-2019 season, but one that will not be animated.

Disney Channel’s “Frankenweenies” will still be part of the slate in 2019, but it will not feature the titular character.

Disney said Thursday that “Frankenchweenies,” a four-minute animation about a “young Frankenstein,” will be a regular feature of the 2019-2020 season.

The first half of “Frankensweenies”‘ animation was produced by Universal Pictures and will be released exclusively on Disney Channel, Disney said.

“Frankenstein’s” new animated feature will be directed by Paul Feig and executive produced by Scott Free.

It will air in 2019 on Disney XD, Disney Channel’s digital streaming service.

It marks the first time that a Disney Channel series has been produced outside of Disney XD.

“We’re really excited about this collaboration with Disney Channel and looking forward to getting the animation and the story into the homes of our viewers,” said Disney XD CEO John Landgraf.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring a new animated adventure to Disney XD.”

The animated shorts, “Frankeningweenies’ Adventure” and “Frankenhorns Adventure,” are part of Disney Channel Kids’ programming.

“Frankengines” is an eight-minute short and “The Monsters of Frankenenhorns” will premiere on Disney Kids on Jan. 18.
